In order to thoroughly study and apply Xi Jinping's socialist economic thought with Chinese characteristics, Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought and the spirit of the Nineteenth National Congress of the Party,  the Institute of Regional and Urban economics of Renmin University of China, the Institute of Urban and Regional Economics of Nankai University and the School of Economics of Lanzhou University co-hosted the 17th annual Meeting of National Regional Economics Discipline Construction and the symposium on "Regional Green Development and Beautiful China Construction" at Lanzhou University, from October 13 to 14th. Experts and scholars from nearly 80 universities and scientific research institutions in China have conducted extensive and in-depth academic exchanges around the evolution and innovation of regional economic theory, regional green development and the theme of beautiful China construction. On behalf of Lanzhou University, Wu Guosheng, deputy secretary of the party committee of Lanzhou University, delivered a welcome speech , and Professor Sun Jiuwen, director of the Institute of Regional and Urban Economics of Renmin University of China, delivered an opening speech. Professor Gao Xincai, honorary dean of the School of Economics of Lanzhou University and President of Henan University of Economics and Law sent a congratulatory message. Guo Aijun, dean of the school of economics, presided over the opening ceremony.

The academic seminar was based on a keynote presentation and six sub-forums.

Facing the subject construction, national strategy and regional demand, this annual meeting discussed a series of basic theoretical problems in the discipline construction of regional economics, shared the academic research results, and promoted academic exchanges. At the same time, the holding of the annual meeting further enhanced the academic reputation of the of Economics of Lanzhou University, strengthened the academic ties between the college and other universities in the country, and played a good role in promoting the construction of the college's first-class discipline.

The conference decided that the 18th Annual National Conference on the Discipline construction of Regional Economics would be hosted by the School of Economics of Jinan University.
